Whenever you define yourself or define others through thought, you actually are limiting yourself. Defining can also be called judging. Either one is bad, although I consider judging to be worse.
To define yourself through thought makes you to narrow down any possibilities of what you could be because defining means you are not open.
To define(or judge) someone else surprisingly does the same thing to you.
Think about it, when you are defining, you are closing down your mind to focus one the one thing(or many) your are defining yourself to.
Give up defining your yourself and you will not wither away. Quite the opposite: You will thrive.
Another thing is to not let yourself be concerned with the way others define you. That is obviously limiting themselves. That is their problem, not yours.
Whenever you interact with people, don’t be there primarily as a function or a role, but as the field of conscious Presence.
That is from Eckhart Tolle. Actually this whole post is Eckhart through me, but I could not have said any better what he just said above.
It takes practice, but to not be restricted in awareness is a very powerful feeling that I have gotten to enjoy completely. Or at least completely as I know of so far. I am not always in that unrestricted form, but when I am and can be, it is euphoria. The first step? Don’t define yourself. There are some things that cannot be explained with words. This feeling of being unlimited is one.
So why can’t we just be like that? Positive, aware and euphoric? I am glad you asked. Here is more Eckhart:
Once you have identified with some form of negativity, you do not want to let it go and on a deeply subconscious level, you do not want positive change. It would threaten your identity as a depressed, angry or hard-done by person. You will then ignore, deny or sabotage the positive in your life. This is a common phenomenon. It is also quite insane.
Did you read that right? Realization. And an awesome realization at that. Realization is awareness in its infancy.
The realization is that our ego wants to hold on to negativity as much as possible to keep its identity. To keep hold of the human of you. But you are not human, you are a spirit ready to thrive into your highest form.
Why are we made this way? It doesn’t matter any more now, because we are aware of this challenge. A bump in our vibration that we can now just forge right through….
Defining and judging keeps you from being your greatest you!
You want to be your greatest you, don’t you?
This reminds me of a song by the great Alanis Morissette, called Crazy. Here are all the lyrics, but what I am referring to is
In a sky full of people, only some want to fly.
Isn’t that crazy?
In a world full of people, only some want to fly.
Isn’t that crazy?
In a heaven of people there’s only some want to fly.
Ain’t that crazy? Crazy, crazy… crazy…
This song always chokes me up. Literally.
So for a little musical interlude, I share below.
If you have any thoughts or comments please share as I would love your input. Also please share this post as I know it was valuable to you. You just may not know it yet…
