There are so many lists out there for helping people figure things out and to make life easier or better or more efficient or the list goes on and on. Sometimes said lists are very basic and sometimes more complicated.
I like the foundationally charged ones. The lists that help make you happier on a bottom level so you you can build from there.
What is the epitome of foundation for me? Gratitude. Appreciation. Gratefulness.
So here it goes…
1. Identify what you appreciate about your life
This is not at all hard to do, it’s just about keeping your on any positive anything happening around you. No matter what happens to you, find the opportunity in it. Training your brain to keep on looking for the upbeat is good for your brain in so many ways.
Connecting with all that is good around you after you find it is only going to brighten your life. And believe there is always good.
2. Compliment people
I can tell you from personal experience that complimenting people is awesome for your well being. Not only is this practice partly like step #1, but putting a smile on people’s face is kind of a challenge I take on. Be memorable to people by pointing out their good qualities(you may want to embellish a little to get the smile you want) you can see and encourage them to keep that trend going. It does wonders.
3. Write a gratitude list
Five things you are grateful for on a piece of paper or journal(which is a good idea), no matter what every night. This small but enlightening practice has been proven scientifically to help improve your life. It may be difficult at first, but stick with it. You will find yourself remembering things during the day to put down on your list. Then you know you are doing well.
4. Make a list of your accomplishments and successes
Sit down and think about what good things you have done in your life and write it down. What have others thanked you for? It is amazing what we may take for granted about what we do every day that other people don’t know or don’t know how to do. We are all different. We know different things. We can do different things. Don’t discount your habits as ‘oh everyone does that.’ No we are all different. And you may not think about this, but you are most likely a mentor or example to somebody.
5. Notice the awe of everyday wonders
I love just looking up at the sky on sunny/cloudy days and marvel at them. the shapes, the nature of it all. Or trees as they are swaying in the wind. The birds, the everything. Everything is a miracle. Don’t take anything as ‘just there’. Life is awesome if you just take the time to look at it.
There are only two ways to live your life.
One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as if everything is.

Which one are you?
