Why naps are the sleeping optimizer to your day

I am in the habit now of taking a good 45 minute nap as daily as possible. Naps are just about the highlight of my day when nothing else really important is going on.  If only sleeping instead of overwork was always a desired habit to breed…

I have learned that humans are one of the few animals on this planet that traditionally do all their sleeping in one shot as most animals are polyphasic sleepers.  Most animals, including humans, have a circadian rhythm that should have us all taking longer naps throughout the day. But humans don’t.

And we are considered the smart ones…

The modern human life does not facilitate for that type of intelligent behavior. Isn’t the irony ridiculous? The behavior of sleep deprivation causes many different types of issues, bodily and mental ills. On the one hand, we hardly get enough sleep during the night and on the other naps don’t happen either.

You gotta wonder what society and modern life would be like if we did sleep like the animals.

But anyways, I am here to lay out some benefits of getting more and/or enough sleep.

Your working memory that is what you use to complete complex tasks more efficiently which essentially means paying attention to one thing while having a myriad of others things in your head. Also, memory retention improves as your brain stores memories and things you have learned while you are sleeping.

There was a NASA study that found that a 40 minute nap increases your alertness by a ridiculous 100%!!  Plus naps are more effective than caffeine or a bit of exercise to keep you awake.

Cortisol is a hormone that helps us deal with all the stress in our lives. If you have too much cortisol, though, you body takes on many detrimental effects on your body such as an increase in abdominal fat and weakening of essential systems in your body. Also, diabetes and heart disease can become an issue from not enough sleeping.

Serotonin gives us the feelings of a good well being and contentment which can be sacrificed from not enough sleep. Irritability, depression and anxiety can result.

Is that enough?

This is just a few of the benefits of sleeping and naps, especially. But this is a lot of straightforward knowledge that can get you started.
